How to Beat Procrastination

How to Beat Procrastination
Have you ever had a difficult task ahead of you, and you’re super stressed and nervous, so you put it off until later?

Sound familiar? Yep, you’re procrastinating. We all love crossing off the easy tasks, but the more challenging ones stay there longer, and it's time we stop putting them off! Don’t feel ashamed; procrastination is a trap that many individuals fall into.

Research has shown that 95% of people procrastinate in different areas including schoolwork and work projects alike!

You are not alone. If you want to break the procrastination habit, just follow these techniques below, and it will become easier for you!

1. Get Into Your Zone

For some tasks, it is usual to feel overwhelmed and stressed. However, the key here is simply doing one task at a time - don't try overwhelming yourself by working on multiple things simultaneously!

Staying focused can also help you complete these obligations faster while ensuring your next move is towards finishing what needs to be done.

2. Five Minute Miracle

You may not realize it, but some responsibilities can be done in just 5 minutes!

Ask yourself, what action can you complete in less than 5 minutes today that accelerates its completion? After you’ve identified the activity, set a timer for five minutes and start working on it!

Studies have demonstrated that this is one of the best techniques to avoid procrastination. Once you start working on something, you have a higher probability of finishing it. Believe us; a small action is still progress. Five minutes can make a difference in your day!

3. Have a Procrastination Power Song

Ever feel like you need a little push to get started with that project? Well, we have the perfect solution! Listening to a powerful song and playing it in front of anything you’ve been procrastinating will give you that push!

It is said that the human brain likes to have a trigger for its actions to be enhanced. Music affects our brain in ways we don't yet understand, but one thing's for sure: when you're feeling down or stressed out, listening to uplifting music will make it easier.

4. Take Some Scheduled Breaks

We cannot regularly resist the urge to read the news, check social media, or even update ourselves on sports teams. However, you can always indulge in these activities in an organized manner.

Instead of giving in to any of these temptations, you should schedule them into your calendar. This way when the need becomes too solid and impossible to resist, it won't be a downward productivity spiral.

Life is a marathon not a sprint, so don't forget to take some breaks in your routine and schedule them for when you need them most! That way, when life throws challenging tasks at us, we can rebound stronger than ever before!

5. Throw Away Your Excuses

Sometimes we procrastinate because excuses surround us. “I am not in the mood,” “I am under a lot of pressure,” or “I need this to happen before I can start.”

These things might seem like they're true at first glance; however, when we analyze our thoughts more closely, it becomes clear that these are the walls that are holding us back.

Stop them! Own your truth and let excuses go!

6. Incorporate A Reward System

When we are enduring discomfort and boredom, we need to reward ourselves as often as possible. Many psychologists suggest this trick: award yourself for making progress, not just at the end of it all!

This way, your work becomes more fun, and as a result, when you’re amping yourself up to start working, it will be less stressful.

Whether it’s drinking some excellent coffee, eating gummy bears, or even watching 10 minutes of your favorite show, there is always some reward waiting!
