Let’s face it: We live in a fast-paced and stressful world, and finding calm in this chaos can be challenging. Whether it is work, insecurities, or family issues, we all seek comfort.
Meditation has been practiced around the world by many cultures over time in a variety of ways. Some meditate to reconnect with themselves, while others nurture their soul. However, many are remote and detached from this practice in their daily lives.
It is more than a temporary stress relief technique. Scientific evidence suggests that meditating can fight chronic illnesses such as depression and heart disease.
If you are interested in trying this practice but do not know where to start, here are three types of meditations that will help rejuvenate your senses while transforming them into something even better! (Don’t worry anyone can do this.)
1. Mindfulness Meditation
Sometimes we are stressed about our past, worried for our future, and we forget about truly being present. The magical feature of mindfulness is that you can practice it anywhere- while walking your dog, washing your dishes, or even brushing your teeth!
Simply put, mindfulness meditation is the practice of being aware or mindful of the present moment.
To experience it, set time aside to sit down and focus on your breathing - this can be as little as 5 minutes daily. Redirect your attention from the kind of thinking that distracts you and engage with your current surroundings.
At Attitude Is Free, we believe that the present becomes more critical when we are mindful of our actions. With distractions out of sight and mind, it’s easier to stay in tune with what matters, and life becomes easier.
Mindfulness meditation is the key to unlocking your true self. It can have incredible effects like an increased ability for self-awareness, so give it a try!
2. The Body Scan Meditation
Are you tired of feeling pain, or tension in your body? If so, then this meditation is for YOU! It’s called “body scan,” allowing you to tune out distractions while focusing on distinct body areas.
In other words...it feels like a magic pill that takes away any nagging aches within just minutes!
To practice this meditation:
Find a place with no distractions.
Close your eyes and start scanning down your body from the top of your head.
Notice if you feel any sensation or discomfort throughout your body and breathe - This will allow each part to loosen up.
Take 20-30 seconds on each part of your body. In the end, you will feel relaxed and with no tensions at all!
3. Mantra Meditation
Ever wonder what you're repeating while taking that yoga class to feel calm? You are chanting mantras. These short phrases have the power of instilling a profound sense of calm in our lives.
Meditating with mantras combines the benefits of positive affirmations while breathing deeply with the repetition of a single sound or word.
Some benefits include protecting the mind, healing the body, and having a deeper connection with divine sensations.
You may find the idea of repeating “So Hum” uncomfortable. However, it is a powerful universal mantra that creates a physical vibration in your body and leads to a profound connection with your feelings. Just as music makes a unique brain activity, mantras generate internal energy.
Shorter affirmations work best. For example,
I am content at this moment.
I am conscious.
My body is healthy, my mind is brilliant, and my soul is relaxed.
If you’re ready to cultivate a deeper connection and be more conscious, start your exploration of mantra chanting today.
Whether you are pursuing meditation to find stillness, reduce stress, or get a deeper connection with yourself, there is a technique waiting for you!
Meditation continues to be one of the best secrets for wellness, and many scientists recommend it for managing any challenging emotion. So don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try any type!
It often takes some trial and time to see which one fits you best. However, this will be the perfect timing to hit a pause button for any distraction or tension.
Breath, reconnect, and feel a deep peace…. You are about to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
